Side mount to reversal

Entry

You are in the bottom position, with your opponent in side mount, applying pressure to control you. Your goal is to create space for an effective reversal.

Control

• Start by bringing your inside elbow into the gap between your opponent’s legs and your chest. This creates a wedge, giving you leverage and creating the space needed to break their control.

• Once your elbow is inside, use your arm to block their knee, preventing them from moving or expanding their base.

Execution

• With your arm blocking their knee, use your other arm’s bicep to push against your opponent’s face.

• As you push their face, initiate a strong diagonal bridge, driving your hips upward and over to create momentum for the reversal. This bridging motion, combined with the knee block, will force your opponent to topple over.

Finish

Complete the reversal by following through with the bridge, rolling your opponent onto their back and gaining the top position in a side mount. From there you can establish a more dominant position like full mount by sliding a knee on their belly.
